Playing the Blame Game – a National Pastime

What is one of the most enjoyed international events? Playing the blame game. It’s immensely popular, and participants come from all over the world. It is accomplished in every language, by men, women and children. The rules are relatively simple: blame early, blame often and blame indiscriminately. The one who delivers the most blames wins. It can be done by novices and experts alike. If you get good enough playing the blame game you may receive the official designation of blamemaster, dedicated to the belief in the power of blame.

Then you become blaming. Blaming becomes an unconscious extension of your thoughts. You will radiate the inner glow of being blameless. Playing the blame game with a total lack of responsibility for yourself and your fellow man results in a complete disrespect for the value of others. Obviously, playing regularly hinders productive relationships and inhibits the development of adequate and fulfilling social support networks. The longer that you play, the greater chance you will have of forming reflex blames.

These are blames that require little forethought and little conscious processing. Politics and political debates are saturated with blamemasters. Everybody can and does blame the government for most of their woes, and as the government becomes bigger and takes a larger role in our lives it’s hard to know where we end and the government begins. We have to realize that if we are trying to quit playing the blame game, the first step is to admit that you alone have control over your actions and your reactions.
